Introducing the UNCDF Advisory Panel on Women and Digital Financial Services in Central Africa

This new Advisory Panel brings together nearly 40 women and men in the six countries in the CEMAC economic zone to share their expectations, concerns, and recommendations regarding the financial inclusion of women.

Women’s voices as community leaders, technical experts, and consumers are essential to designing policies that benefit them. Yet they are often sidelined during the policymaking process.

The new Advisory Panel on Women and Digital Financial Services in Central Africa brings together nearly 40 women and men in the six countries in the CEMAC economic zone: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Chad, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Organised by the UNCDF Policy Accelerator, the panel’s mandate is to convey to public sector decision-makings their expectations, concerns, and recommendations regarding the financial inclusion of women.

We also hope that this panel can serve as a model of how to coordinate direct and regular dialogue between representatives of civil society, government, and external partners.

The panel begins its work on March 11, 2021, shortly after International Women’s Day. The Panel will meet monthly and propose measures to ensure more inclusive and responsible digital financial services that address the urgent needs of vulnerable people in the region, which are increasing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
