Congratulations to Aneth Kasebele

Aneth Kasebele is recognised by Women in Fintech Powerlist 2021 for her work in digital finance.

Aneth Kasebele, a key member of the UNCDF Policy Accelerator team providing technical assistance in East and Southern Africa, has been named to the Innovate Finance “Women in Fintech Powerlist 2021”.

“Fintech alone isn’t enough to reduce the gender gap,” shares Aneth. “A recent study from the Bank for International Settlements shows that the fintech gender gap across the globe is larger than the gender gap in bank account ownership. While understanding the cause of the gender gap in fintech requires further research, having more women in different decision-making roles of fintech ecosystems is a step in the right direction.”

“Innovate Finance is commendable as it offers a platform for women in fintech from different countries to connect, network and exchange lessons from their respective ecosystems,” adds Aneth. “More active women in the fintech ecosystems can help ensure more products are designed with female customers in mind and help implement non-discriminatory policies and laws. This is why we are intentional about women inclusion in all our engagements with governments, private sector, civil society organizations, among others.”

Some of Aneth’s projects around digital transformation and fintech ecosystems include:

  • Fintech startups acceleration support in Rwanda and Tanzania

  • Data automation and regtech projects in Ethiopia, Malawi and the Pacific Islands to improve data quality, speed, granularity and disaggregation by different metrics such as sex

  • Accelerating MFIs digital transformation to ensure no one (especially women who are the main client of MFIs) is left behind as the economy transitions to digital
